Center sends team to Maharashtra after report of first Zika case

A multi-disciplinary team has been sent by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to Maharashtra, after report of a case of Zika virus in the district of Pune.

The team will monitor the Zika virus situation and provide support to the State government in the management of Zika cases. The team includes three members, consisting of a public health expert from the office of Regional Director, Pune; a gynecologist from Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi; and an entomologist from National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR), ICMR, New Delhi. They will work in close association with the State Health Department, analyze the situation on the ground and determine if the Union Health Ministry’s Action Plan for Zika Management is being put to practice. The team will recommend the public health interventions required for the management of Zika.
